What is The
Mature Mob?
It has been said that we must learn to "focus on what can—instead of what can’t be done". This might have been written about The Mature Mob. It has been over sixteen years since the advent of this creative group of mature adults looking for an outlet for their creative talents, while at the same time searching for a way to donate much-needed funds to the Springfield Senior Center. In 1992, a "mob" of older adults banded together. It was reasoned that the name Mature Mob would let people know that here was a bunch of older folks trying to raise money for the Senior Center and having fun doing it.

Who are the Mature Mob?
The name "The Mature Mob" came courtesy of Kay Feurer who was a Springfield Arts Council representative on the funding board. The title of the first musical, presented in 1992, also told the public what this group was all about…
"A Little Past Sixty But a Long Way from Over the Hill"!
Mature Mob members are active- either still working in their careers or retired and living with purpose. They share their time and talents with the mission of not only supporting the programs of Senior Services of Central Illinois, but supporting each other as well.
What does the Mature Mob do?
Each year, starting in January, members get together and plan the on stage production of their annual show. Production staff includes a director, music director, choreographer, music arranger, advertising manager, ticket sales chair and publicity chair, cast and crew. Some seasons, the cast alone has over 82 members!
The Mature Mob is supported by over 90 advertising sponsors and donors that help fund the performances and the program. Performances run over four days and typically are seen by over 1200 people each season.
Performances have included:
- Hollywood’s Greatest Songs
- A Musical Tapestry of Stephen Foster
- Red Hot and Cole
- Playing at the Palace
This event continues to grow year after year. The efforts of these dedicated volunteers, who work for the productions in every capacity, have raised over $201,764 for Senior Services of Central Illinois. The Mature Mob has great community and corporate support including Alterna-Care and Brandt Consolidated. Please support our sponsors.
How can I be involved?
Each year, The Mature Mob is fortunate to attract people who wish to share their time, talent, wisdom, and experience with the community. Literally, this organization will allow you to "be all you can be!" You’ll find old skills you’ve forgotten and develop new ones. You’ll enjoy better health, make new friendships, stay active and involved in the community and have a whole lot of fun! Won’t you join us? Call 528-4035 and ask for Ron Homann. Auditions for parts in the performance are held in June of each year. What??? You don’t sing or dance? No problem! There are lots of behind-the-scenes parts to play, too!
